INVESTMENT BENEFITS

What benefits should we aim for from our investment in BIM?

In preparing your Business Plan you will need to identify where your company can achieve a return on investment.  Providing data/ objects for BIM is a cost for manufacturers so it is important to identify and maximise the benefits from this investment.

There are 3 areas you should consider as part of your Return on Investment.

  1. Doing enough to be COMPLIANT to BIM Level 2
  2. Using BIM to develop EXISTING STRATEGIES
  3. Using BIM to create NEW STRATEGIES

Developing existing or creating new strategies is higher risk than being compliant but get it right and the competitive advantage can be substantial. And if you don’t assess if you can improve your market position what happens when your competitors do it instead?  This is not alarmist but BIM does offer manufacturers the opportunity to think outside the box and use new information and communications differently.
